The Cannabis Users Guide: California Edition

The use of recreational marijuana in California reached legality on the 1st of January, 2018, bringing the golden state to become the most significant legal cannabis market in the country and arguably in the entire world.

Although this is all true, it is still very possible to get in trouble with the law regarding cannabis use due to state laws and regulations which factor into how weed can be consumed and purchased.

Am I Legally Permitted To Purchase Cannabis In The State Of California?

The answer is yes; you are legally allowed to purchase and or possess anywhere up to 28.5 grams of cannabis at a time.

On the other hand, if you are anywhere between the ages of 18 and 20 years old, you are legally permitted to have up to 8 ounces of marijuana. This requires a recommendation by a physician.

Where Am I Legally Allowed To Buy Cannabis?

You are legally permitted by law to purchase cannabis at any retail location licensed and sanctioned by the state of California.

What Different Types Of Cannabis Products Am I Permitted To Purchase And Consume?

  • Dried Cannabis

Dried Cannabis, commonly referred to as “flower,” is typically sold in increments of grams, eighths, and ounces. The price of any of these amounts will vary upon the quality of the flower.

  • Concentrates

A concentrate is considered to be anything produced through the process of extraction, where THC and other compounds are separated from the actual marijuana plant and creating a substance that is higher in potency than flower.

  • Hash

This product is usually created by extracting vibrant THC resin from out of the plant using compression. When heated is added to the equation, you get what is called rosin hash.

  • Butane Hash Oil

Similar to rosin hash, butane hash oil is made by extracting THC using a chemical called butane. Commonly known as wax, shatter, or crumble, Butane Hash Oil is a highly potent brownish product.

  • CO2 Oil

This type of oil is created when THC is taken out of the plant using a combination of carbon dioxide and pressure. Usually, a less potent substance than butane hash oil, CO2 oil is commonly sold within cartridges and vape pens.

  • Tinctures

These are a type of marijuana extract material containing alcohol, commonly mixed with other calming herbs that usually have soothing effects on the body and mind. This type of product is generally consumed by dropping with a dosage dropper onto or underneath the tongue.

  • Edibles

Foods and candies with THC and CBD inside of them are available for consumption in many forms. While these products are required to be clearly labeled, it is common for people to misread these labels and take more than desired. Be cautious when consuming these products.

  • Topicals

The cannabis product market contains a wide variety of marijuana-infused lotions and creams. These products are usually used to remedy things like chronic pain and skin conditions. They typically do not have any mental or psychoactive effects when used.

  • Plants

You can also acquire cannabis in the form of a seed, clone, or even an entire plant. Anyone over the age of 18 is legally permitted to (as long as they possess a marijuana recommendation from a doctor) have their plant in their house.
